Seeing the Pope, First Time

On Sunday, we took a trip to Pope Benedict's summer residence in the
area known as Castel Gandolfo (it is in the mountains outside of Rome). This villa has been used by the popes for centuries, and this Sunday we were able to join him for the Angelus prayer at noon. If you check the Vatican Youtube channel (which is at the bottom of the blog),
you might be able to catch a glimpse of me in the group of men in black to the left.

It was an amazing trip, and I promise to elaborate on it and post pictures
when things slow down a bit here...

Here are some picts!

More later! Ciao!

  1. Hi Chris!

It took me quite a while to even start this note to you. I struggled on where to begin. Primarily because you really do a nice job of describing your experiences and illustrating the feeling of what you have seen and done. I am so glad that this blog is the way you have chosen to do that becasue I really do need to return and go back through your words and pictures just to absorb it all.

We are all well and the kids have started school. Mason started at Catonsville Middle School (6th grade!) this year and after a few nervous moments he fell right into his new routine. Including walking to and from the bus stop and being at home alone. Patricia's world has changed too because she has always had her brother and now she has to do things on her own.

Barb and I recently spent 5 days in Bufflo NY and visited Niagara Falls. BEAUTIFUL! Both the falls and Buffalo. As an American City it has a bot more character compared to Baltimore. It's a fare bit older and when it was booming there was a lot more money. As a result the architecture was really wonderful to tour. Many Victorian Homes. There are a good numer of Frank Lloyd Wright Homes in the area and we visited 5 of them - 2 of which we toured

    and

    - the others were private homes. I am very intregued by his work now although it wasn't always practical. We'll post our photos on the web somewhere (hopefully today) on Flicker or another photo site - we'll let you know where so you can check them out.

We spent the afternoon at your parent's place last week in celebration of your Grandmother's Birthday. CRABS!

Which brings me back to your adventures - I am very interested in cooking so i am very hopeful that you'll bring home some skills of your own and make some italian dishes for us all when you return.

Best of luck! We're all thinking of you!

  2. Hello Chris,

Nice posts. Thanks for keeping us up with your adventures. I pray all is well with you and that your Italian is coming along. I assume that you will soon be returning to Rome and will begin classes shortly.

Know that you are in my prayers. Keep in touch.
